Book Review: Dead Rules

Dead RulesDead Rules by Randy Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jana and Micheal were inseparable. They're very much in love, doing and sharing their passion on one thing -acting. Until one tragic double date accident happened and Jana accidentally bumped her head on a bowling ball that causes her death. Her spirit wanders in the afterlife where kids go to school of the dead, teaching them basic education and eventually graduate and "move on". During her stay at the school of the dead she found out that the accident that causes her death is not really an accident.

This book got me hooked from the very first page! But sadly I didn't like the ending, I feel it was cut short and made me want to read more. I guess that's what the author wanted. :P But overall it was very good, fast paced and action packed. If you're into paranormal stories, you'd definitely love this book. :)

Movies I Can't Wait to Watch!

"Hunger Games"
Katniss Everdeen is back! I really really can't wait for this! I'm a huge huge fan!!

"Bridesmaids" (already downloaded this, but haven't got the chance to watch it yet!)
Annie's life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian's maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she'll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you'll go for someone you love.

"A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas"
I Hope this one is funner than the earlier movies!! :D

"Breaking of Dawn"
Not a big fan, but what the hey!

"Tomboy"
Multiple award-winner TOMBOY, a truly contemporary coming of age story, a French family with two daughters, 10-year-old Laure (Zoe Heran) and 6-year-old Jeanne (Malonn Levana), moves to a new neighborhood during the summer holidays. With her Jean Seberg haircut and tomboy ways, Laure is immediately mistaken for a boy by the local kids and decides to pass herself off as Mikael, a boy like the others but different enough to catch the attention of leader of the pack Lisa (Jeanne Disson) who becomes smitten with him. Finding resourceful ways to hide her true self Laure takes advantage of her new identity as if the end of the summer would never reveal her unsettling secret.

"Woman in Black"
The trailer is spine-chilling!! Oh and Daniel Radcliffe is the lead cast!

"Grave Encounters"
I haven't tried watching this, I think it's a series? or there are other episodes. Not sure. Looks interesting though.

Leave a comment, let me know what you think of the movies! :)

How to: Mod Eyeliner (Twiggy Style)

I know you know who is this 60's iconic lady! It's Twiggy! THE Twiggy! You know what's amazing about her?! Her EYES! okay fine! not "her" eyes, but the way she does her eyes! It gives a melo-dramatic feel to it when I look at her eyes. Give a closer look! see? see! I found a very simple tutorial on how to do her eyes, from one of my favorite blogger - A Beautiful Mess.

It's very simple and anyone can do it! Here's the outcome. TADA!

*All photos are from A Beautiful Mess.

Soundtrack for Books

Soundtracks for books? hmm..sounds interesting eh? As you all know I love reading! So this is really exciting for me! Booktrack basically gives you a whole new level to reading. The ultimate reading experience is that Booktrack has its own Hollywood score, synchronised music, sound effects that will get you oblivious to your surrounding, you will get lost in your story & the best thing of all? the sound is paced to your own reading speed while constantly changing to match the plot in real-time.

“Unlike traditional audio books, Booktrack is a soundtrack that will match what you are reading, AS YOU READ (Note: no one is reading the story to you). You can now truly hear what it’s like to be back in Holmes time with the suspense of Dr. Watson helping Holmes solve a case, horse’s hooves beating against the pavement while the tension rises in the air & when they site before a fire you will hear the wood crinkling in the background as Holmes & Watson solve another mystery. The personalised sound effects & composition makes the story more powerful & immersive than it has even been heard before!”

I think you can get a free copy of a book - Sherlock Holmes. Holy cow! I'm really excited for this! I can't wait til they release the other books! Here's some sample demo of the Serlock Holmes and Power of Six by Pittacus Lore - the sequel to I Am Number 4.

Book Review: Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

A group of teenage beauty queens was on plane going to some tropical destination, But sadly, their airplane had another idea crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner. They struggles to survive and hope for a grand rescue that eventually becomes pointless.

In most ways was humorously written, it's somewhat a mix of LOST, but the cast are beauty queens. The first few parts are kinda off for me because the author narrates everyone's point of view which gets me a bit off track and before every chapter there's like a "commercial break" which I think is not necessary (I think the author would really want to make it look like the book as a one whole show). I was just skipping and going to the next chapter. The girls are totally quirky, their really funny and some of them are really just brainless LOL. It had me laughing at some parts. The girls are not what you think they are, one of them is a lesbian, there's a gay one and a cursed wild girl. (I don't want to be a spoiler too much! LOL) Although not all of them survived, they are less than15 in the island and surprisingly they used each contestants ability to survive, like fishing, weaving etc. They are really good at it until a so called group of pirates came to their shores, which is apparently they are the cast of a reality TV show of their same network (really weird!). So just guess what happens, girls meets boy, boy canoodles with the girls, kiss with the girls yada yada.

Here's one part of the story that made me laughing hard. Here' the scene where, they are already in the sialnd and yet they are still practicing for the pageant.

"Tiara, Ms. Mississippi right?"
Tiara stared. "Is that my question?"
"It is a question I wanted to make sure I got your name right."
"Oh. Hi y'all! I'm Tiara Destiny Swan from Jackson Mississippi, which is spelled M-I-double-S-I...um..shoot."
"Tiara.." Adina had lost all steam. "What's your favorite color?" Tiara's eyes darted left and right in fear and her smile was strained. "Um. Thank you. I personally believe that we have a duty such as..as Americans..to help other people who are not Americans such as the peoples of the China and the Alaska and the freedoms we enjoy in our great nation and such and that is my opinion which I personally believe will make us stronger nation. Thank you."
Adina squeezed her hands against her head. "what are you even saying?! You just made my brain die a little. You know, people, being beautiful isn't enough."
Tiara look confused.

LOL!

So anyway, I've been reading this book for 2 weeks now, which is really really long for me! I usually finish a book in 5 days time. At first I though the book was very shallow (maybe this is the reason why I kept putting it down!), beauty queens stranded on an island struggling to survive etc. But as I was in the middle, I find it more of a chic-lit, a light read and funny, nothing that will make your head hurt.

Over all the book has a lot of girl power(and I mean a lot!), sisterhood, humor, sarcasm and a whole lot of fun and quirkiness! I recommend this book to all of the girls out there regardless of the age. Be ready for a whole lot of giggles and laughs.

Have you read this? Let me know what you think!

Book Review: Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

How can something wrong feel so right? This quote in front of the book had me thinking and made me very curious. I immediately grabbed it and tried reading few pages and I know I'm hooked.

Maya and Lochan "Lochie" lived a very complicated life, obligated to raise 3 siblings while their mother is an alcoholic, she chugs it like food, hops to one guy to another and with no decent work. Maya and Lochan learned to live like this since they were rally young, they've taken responsibility over the kids like their own children. They take turns on taking and fetching the kids to school, cover for their mom if there's parent and teacher's meeting, cooking and doing groceries etc. As time passes, their bond as brother and sister grows stronger and develops into something that they can't really tell at first and it blossomed into something they can't stop.

Just looking by the book cover, it got me hooked. *guilty! I judge a book by it's cover!* And the intro quote in front had me thinking. I read the book from cover to cover, for around 4-5 days. The book tackles on teenage problems and family problems, it gets very heart wrenching at some part because these things happen in real life, they are not just made up stories by the author. By far it's my most emotional and a bit disturbing book I've read. I felt a strong bond with the characters as I read the book, the author gives justice to the characters. The writing is awesome , it is well described and exhilarating.  I found myself teary eyed and shuttering throughout the novel, even after the novel. I highly recommend Forbidden for young adults who want a dose of real life drama, family problems and struggles.

4 out of 5 stars

If you' ve read the novel, hit me up! Let me know what you think. :)

Don Leo

Does your pet usually jumps to your couch? and just lay there? I have a very cute dog, his name is Leo (given by The BF) He loooves jumping onto the couch when no one is looking and scratches the couch and chews then lies on the pillows (I know, crazy!). When he sees someone looking at him he goes down and lowers down his head like a guilty puppy! He thinks he's the master! haha He's so adorable!

He's really sleepy!
